About PSUBAMS

The Penn State Branch of the American Meteorological Society (PSUBAMS) is PSU's local chapter of the AMS and an integral part of the Penn State meteorology experience. PSUBAMS, with more than 90 student members, serves to broaden students' knowledge of meteorology via educational and professional programs.

Our Speaker Series programs sponsor speakers from all areas of meteorology. In recent years professionals from the National Weather Service, The Weather Channel, and other organizations have spoke to students at these programs. And our Social Series programs have allowed students and faculty to meet and mingle outside the classroom, in a more relaxed environment. This past August PSUBAMS sponsored a meet-the-faculty outing to a minor league baseball game where students met and chatted with meteorology faculty.PSUBAMS also sponsors a weather photo contest every fall and a t-shirt design contest every spring.

PSUBAMS members at the 87th AMS Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Tx.

A recent success of January, 2007 was sending 17 student members to the 87th AMS Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX, where the members met many meteorology professionals and learned more about the field of meteorology.

We are very excited and lucky to have one returning officer and three new officers for this upcoming school year to help make this year one of the best yet! One of our top goals this year is to repeat PSUBAMS representation at the 88th AMS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. We also hope to continue bringing dynamic speakers to Happy Valley so that Psubams members and the Penn State community could learn more about meteorology.

Join and help us make this the best year for PSUBAMS yet!!
