RECENT NEWS AND EVENTSDecember 4th, 2007: Dr. John Scala, TV private consultant meteorologist, spoke to students and faculty at a PSUBAMS meeting about the late severe weather outbreak in Pennsylvania on December 1st, 2006. Dr. Scala gave attendees a full synopsis of the tornado event that occurred near Halifax, PA. Overall, it was a great presentation and PSUBAMS sends a special thank you to Dr. Scala for coming to visit. Friday, November 30th, 2007: Jim Berman, General Manager from WHP-CBS 21 in Harrisburg came to Penn State to speak to student about the world of television and television meteorology. He informed students on how he goes about looking for potential meteorologists to work at his station. He also allowed students to critique a video of a potential applicant for his TV station in order to make it clear what he and other general managers looks for in TV Meteorologists. Over all it was a great meeting and student members of PSUBAMS and of the Penn State Meteorology program enjoyed his visit. Friday, November 9th, 2007: PSUBAMS/CWS Date Auction. Event was able to raise more than $1000. 75% of the money will be donated to Thon. A special thanks goes to everyone who participated in this event and help make it a success. November, 2007: PSUBAMS Photo contest. The results are in for those photos selected be in this year's PSUBAMS Photo Calendar. Congratulations to those whose pictures were selected. Friday, October 26th, 2007: Dr. John G. W. Kelley, research meteorologist for the Marine Modeling and Analysis Programs at NOAA's Coast Survey Development Laboratory, and Penn State Meteorology program Alum presented a special PSUBAMS/CWS seminar in 112 Walker Building titled "NOAA's GIS Web Mapping Portal to Real-Time Coastal Observations and Forecasts." PSUBAMS and CWS send a special thanks to Dr. Kelly for speaking at the event. Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007: Internship Meeting. Thanks to those students who participated in this event. Tuesday, October 9th, 2007: Graduate School Meeting, Dr. Eugene Clothiaux spoke on how to get into graduate school. Wednesday, September 19th, 2007: Dr. George Young, Penn State Meteorology Professor discussed some of his current research, Synthetic Aperture Radar.
